Porch Lights and Pandas

Stopping by the Dallas Contemporary to check out a sparkly show, I found an array of glitterized panda bears covering the walls of this vast space.  It was a show that definitely seemed playful, and the graphic black and white had an almost mod feel.  I of course loved all the shiny flashes throughout and thought it appropriate to wear something with no glitz at all to counter-balance the room.  On my way to the car, I couldn't help but stop, pose, and ponder under the most yellow of all bulbs.  I swear it must have been one of those bug lights because of its intense color.  My ensemble had some playfulness too just like the pics I had just seen, and the flow and drape allowed for roomy fun.  Even though the pieces are solid and simple, there is enough interest in the fabric, draping, and tiniest details.  After a few snaps, I can safely say I made it back to the car without a bite from bear or bug.

Auto Accessory

Here in Dallas, it's practically a requirement to drive a car.  In fact for a lot of people, their car is an extension of their personality as much as that great bag or pair of diamond earrings you need with an outfit.  Recently, I've spotted a bunch of the new Fiats sporting around town.  They come in really great colors - sort of what I call "off-neutrals", but the super-charged high fashion version is the Gucci edition. That's right, complete with red and green stripes and GG logos on the wheels - now that's a car for any major logo fashionista!  On the other hand, some people like to take their cars and "personalize" them with images that showcase their own mindset.  These graphics become a tattoo for the automobile, and I've seen some major tattoos recently.  Check out the details on some low-riders I've encountered.  That's personal expression all across the board.

No Sweat

I'm a sucker for any kind of head gear.  I love it all - hats, wraps, turbans, earmuffs, and headbands.  I saw a lot of it on the runways for this season and then repeated again for the upcoming fall/winter (check out Marc Jabobs for winter 2012/2013 if you haven't seen it already - those hats!  I will be wearing!).  I recently started wearing a label that I've been following for several years - Thom Browne, and now I"m obsessed with it.  I'm loving everything, and the cut works great for my frame since most of it is so shrunken and sharp.  In fact, you know I don't usually like to wear head-to-toe one line, but I couldn't help myself this time and even had to top it off with a little ear warming headband even though I hate to sweat and won't be hitting the courts anytime soon!

Typical Southern Boy

Could it be more appropriate?  I don't think so - a "less than macho" boy from a small town in Arkansas eating at a new restaurant called Sissy's Southern Kitchen & Bar in the big city of Dallas.  The name says it all - "southern kitchen" that is - because the food is just what I grew up loving and still love.  Everything is fried of course and couldn't be better.  I was dining with a very dear friend (oh and David was there too), and we all ordered a mix of things and shared.  Our table was full of fried okra, grits, squash puppies, macaroni and cheese, crab cakes, and the list goes on.  Of course by the end of the meal, there was no food left on the table.  Since it was my first time there and not knowing exactly what to expect, I wore something simple and toned down (for me!)  just to be prepared for any type of atmosphere.  My friend Patti is always chic and a total blast so it was a night filled with everything it should be - tons of food (and drink), tons of laughs, and tons of fashion!
