Go for the Gold

So tonight is all about taking home the gold as the winners are revealed at the Academy Awards.  Today the hopefuls are buffing, polishing, spritzing, spraying, and getting ready for the red carpet runway in hopes of getting an Oscar.  Since I don't have one on my mantle, I'll just stick to wearing my gold - all year round.  Enjoy the show!

Lovely Looks from Lela

Lela Rose knows how to make clothes that are wearable and artistic.  They have interest and details that bring them up a notch.  Some of the pieces were among some of my favorites from the whole week as they can be paired with so many other labels for a look that's all your own.

Love the color blocking and the colors on this top
Great texture to this dress
Love this coat
This tee is organic yet geometric at the same time
Great colors together - you know I love me some lavendar
Another great coat in a juicy color
Tees that go with everything

It's All In The Mix

David has long been a huge fan of mixing colors, textures, and patterns with his outfits as well as varying the shapes and silhouettes.  He's known to wear pants so long they drag the ground trailing behind him or so short it's hard to tell if they are pants or shorts!  He loves both cuts - boxy, oversized, and exaggerated or tight, skinny, and shrunken as well as everything in between.  I on the other hand typically like a more fitted, long and lean cut; however, recently I've been experimenting as well and opening up to more playful mixes of it all as well as now wearing some color (other than my usual neutrals).  In fact, this outfit is one of my favorites now even though it's not what I typically gravitate towards - the pants are shorter, the jacket is very boxy and widest at the most inappropriate spot on the body, and the patterns are way too busy for me, but for some reason, I do love it so maybe David is starting to wear off on me just a little after all these years.  (Of course, I've yet to decide if that's a good thing!)

Splash

Throw it all together and stand out in the crowd.  The techniques were intriguing, the colors were powerful, and the shapes were extreme.  It was Katya Leonovich.  The collection was full of fun with the bright prints and color combinations, and although the clothes may not have been the most wearable of the season, they did bring a smile to my face at this high energy presentation.

A Wild Rush

It was a crazy night in New York as the shows were all starting to overlap and run together - one runs longs and is across town while the next one starts on time and is super packed - it all makes for a mad dash to and fro around the city.  Being night time doesn't help the situation because cabs are starting to get a little scarce since most people are off from work and catching their rides to their nightly entertainment.  Milk Studios which is known for hosting many of the fashion shows was especially jammed pack this night due to several shows and presentations going on at the same time.  I had to squeeze my way through the crowd and try to fit into one of the elevators to make it to the top.  The penthouse of course would be the location of the Graeme Armour show, but the elevator attendant informed me after waiting for a really long time for my ride that this metal box didn't go to the top floor.  What?  I was late already so I jumped off at the next stop and wound around in some dark hallways until an adorable girl told me where the back staircase was located to get to the penthouse floor for my next show.  I hiked up my pants and hauled up those stairs as quickly as my little stiletto feet would carry me.  To my surprise when I opened the door at the top of that staircase, I ended up not where I was expecting to be.  Another adorable girl inside told me to come in anyway because the show was just starting so I hovered in a corner not to disturb all the happenings - models and dressers running everywhere, people on headphones, music pounding in my ears - I was smack in the middle of the show backstage!  This was amazing seeing everything first hand from behind the scenes.  I snapped a few photos but was so distracted I couldn't keep up with the pace - what a show.

Ready, set, go!
Love the back detail of this shimmery number

Rushing back down those stairs (many, many flights), I headed off to Exit Art for the next show - Libertine.  I was eager to see this collection as I knew it would be super fun with some quirk.  The show was almost entirely black and white with the most over-exaggerated circles and stripes - it was graphics galore!  I loved it of course, and Bill Cunningham couldn't stop taking photos.  In fact, he stood up out of his chair most of the show trying to catch every detail.  The crowd was super fun.  It was almost 9:00 p.m. by this time so they were wound up as well as the models who brought their drinks down the runway with them!
