OMG - did anyone happen to check out the Superbowl halftime? Why am I asking that as I'm sure EVERYONE checked it out; although I'm not any kind of sports fan at all, even I watched the halftime segment. Madonna was the performer and from the beginning dramatic Roman/Egyptian entrance with "Vogue", onto the dance moves of "Music", followed by a cheerleading number duo with Nicki Minaj, and ending with the help of Cee Lo to "Like a Prayer", it was thrilling in spite of my few nervous moments. Her Givenchy outfit (can I hear an Amen) was a touchdown for the mini concert.

The other night, we were able to catch the music of a county grand dame Loretta Lynn. She performed to a packed house, and her twin daughters opened the show with a few of their numbers while her son played guitar in the band behind her. She touched on all her standards from "Coal Miner's Daughter" to "Honkey Tonk Girl" and did some racier numbers like "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man" and "The Pill" and even managed to mix in a few Gospel favorites in between. Her dress (although not Givenchy) was a burst of baby blue lace, satin, and sequins as one would appropriately expect from her. Now I know I've "reported" on her before, but this show was more family oriented and as all-American as the superbowl. With these two recent ventures, maybe I'm even coming around to things more mainstream (but then again, maybe not). |
