Rescue Me

Easter came and went so quickly this year, and I swear I was so lazy on Sunday that I didn't get out of bed until one in the afternoon - even slept through the alarm clock that was set for 8:00 a.m.  Finally I cleaned myself up, and we headed to a popular fast food place and dined on fiesta potatoes and bean tostadas - yum!  After lunch, I grabbed the pooch and walked over to the park to check out the holiday celebrations.  My chihuahua was not at all enthusiastic about being on a leash and certainly not interested in walking around on the ground so I was forced to carry the little tub of fur.  People were camped out everywhere on blankets (none of which that I saw were Hermes) with their bottles of wine and sweaty children running around begging for fruit on a stick all as the Dallas symphony played music for their enjoyment.

Many dogs ran loose and meandered about as others were there set up for adoption by various animal shelters.  I know that parents often take their children during the holidays to a soup kitchen as a tool to teach them how others live and how blessed they have been so I thought this would be a great plan for my little one to see less fortunate fellow four-legged friends.  There was one adorable puppy that could only use two of her legs to move about, but she was determined to walk around on the ground without assistance so I put my girl in the grass with her so she could see the willpower of this little dog, and of course mine stared up at me and didn't even glance at the crippled canine.  I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Street Chic

I caught a glimpse of this girl as I was walking into one of my favorite afternoon sandwich shops.  What first caught my eye was her beautifully waved hair with effortlessly pinned up sides.  Next was the shocking kelly green color of her dress with its deep v-neckline and bold print.  She opted to accessorize only with a pair of gold sandals and shockingly no jewelry, but it keeps the overall look simple and shows how a great dress and hair can pull together a springtime outfit.

My New BFF's

David and I recently attended DIFFA Dallas which is a huge party held annually at the Anatole Hotel and benefits AIDS research and related organizations.

This year 's event was important to attend due to low ticket sales last year which consequently caused its cancellation in 2010; therefore, this time promised to be bigger and better and the format would be changed up to keep it more interesting.  I'm not so sure it was that different than years past, but seating for us was definitely different.  Friends of ours (or their companies) usually buy tables, but our tickets this year were individual seats which means you are randomly seated eating mini cornbread muffins with strangers.

A basket full of yummy cornbread
Never one being too much for drawn-out speeches or video montages with kitschy shit like psychedelic pirates drinking ale that had little to do with the event, my eyes drifted to the floor to marvel at how perfectly my Yves Saint Laurent pumps matched the blue in the banquet room's floral carpet.  Before the live auction, I ran to say hello to another local blogger and then kept my butt still as the bidding began.

Much to my surprise even at our far away table, one of the men sitting next to me started to bid on one of the packages.  Back and forth bids - $8000, $9000 - do I hear $10,000 from the auctioneer.  Finally the villa in Spain with airfare included sold to my new best friends for $12,000.  (I quickly reminded them that the house sleeps eight).

My next vacation
We're headed overseas
We exchanged cards and kisses and headed into another ballroom for a choppy fashion show and communal desserts.  I ran into a couple of fashion savvy friends as we hung out asking each other if the show was over or just on a really long pause.  During what seemed to be a break, we bolted for the door.  As we walked down the long corridors, I asked David, "what shall I pack for my trip to Madrid?"

Tibi

I know you're all thinking "how long does it take to write about New York fashion week, and will it ever end", and I promise soon, but after all, this IS a fashion blog, and we attended so many shows that I must get them all in with a little report.  With that said, the collection from Tibi was such a fun one for me because so many pieces were spot on for things that David and I both love - from the leather and shearling coat with fuchsia toboggan to multi-color palates of muted dark aquas, grays, and greens (all favorites of David) to voluminous skirts and elements of metallics with even some fashion/social celebrities like Olivia Palermo (all favorites of mine).

The daytime clothes were a mix of layers from sheer, lightweight dresses combined with really heavy overcoats that gave not only a fresh look with their play on fabrics but also a great mix of masculine and feminine elements.  The touches of pink were unexpected and felt fresh for winter.  The coats were non-constructed and non-fussy which made them easy to throw on over any silhouette.  The dresses for the evening hours were more structured and played with volume and hour-glass shapes.  The metallics sparkled but in a subtle way with texture and sheen rather than full on bling and shine.

The white dress with red embroidery was a show stopper, and although this was our last show of the week, it ended on a high-note and was a great end to an overall unbelievable, whirlwind trip.
